What type of base coat sheen is best?

Your base coat should be a satin sheen. Eggshell is
another sheen that can be used, but the method for
applying the glaze on the wall is different than when
you are using a satin base coat. The reason is
because the glaze tends to dry faster with eggshell.

The effect of an antique Venetian block-printed textile
was achieved here by layering glazes of different
colors, over which the damask pattern was painted
with custom designed stencils and gold and steel
metallic powders.
The hand-painted ornament on this 60"
diameter table top is inspired by 15th
century Italian designs, and the finish is
lightly distressed and waxed to give the
look and feel of a time-worn antique.
